  1. Global Unique Well Identifier(GUWI) Service

  2. Objectives • Establish an industry standard unique identifier for all known wells in the world • Create a Master Well Index containing the unique identifier together with sufficient common attributes to enable matching of wells to the file • Provide an industry service for Well Registration and Matching to: • assign unique ids to new wells • match existing wells to identifiers already in the master index

  3. Benefits • The Well Master Well Index (MWI) will: • Provide a single source for all known global wells. • Enable clients to assign standard unique ids to proprietary well files to minimize ongoing integration issues. • The Well Registration and Matching service will: • Enable IHSE customers and other operators, data vendors, and service providers to assign standard unique ids to their well files for delivery to industry.

  4. Industry Participation • POSC • Desire to develop and promote a joint solution • Main points of LOI agreed upon • Work on a formal agreement • Creation of an industry steering team (WISWG) • PPDM • Request for Endorsement • Presentation to the Board • Vote put to the membership

  5. Master Well Index Structure • We have completed the design, development and loading for R1 of the MWI based upon extensive client discussions and review • Future releases will be designed in combination with the WISWG • The MWI will be maintained as a single table with one record for each unique well. • There will be 4 main components: • GUWI • Common Attributes • Status • Registration

  7. Deliverables Master Well Index • We will initially populate the MWI with all of the IHS Energy wells in the Canadian, US, and International databases; these will be flagged as proprietary. (4 million +) • Over time, we will add to this data on new and unique wells provided to us by customers; these will be flagged as public. • New and unique wells added through IHS Energy research and accumulation processes will continue to be flagged as proprietary. Work Group Issues!

  8. Deliverables For our customers: • We will deliver the full MWI for the regions that they subscribe to. • We will deliver records flagged as public for the areas that they don’t subscribe to. • The proprietary content of the MWI will remain the property of IHS Energy covered by existing data contracts. For non-customers: • We will make the records flagged as public available

  9. Deliverables Well Registration and Matching Service • The Well Registration and Matching Service is something that IHS Energy offers today within the International business: • Generate a unique id for new wells • Return a list of unique ids by matching against a list the MWI • We will not be generating new ids for the US and Canada but we will extend the matching service to these regions. • The Well Registration and Matching Service will be made available to customers and non-customers alike. Work Group Issue!

  10. Deliverables • A web site has been created that provides details about the service and how to submit requests for the Master Well Index or the Well Registration and Matching Service. • There are forms on the site that guide you through the process and show what data is required • It is intended to provide the MWI and Services to industry on a cost-recovery basis • The GUWI Service will be available starting June 5th, 2006 Work Group intendsto Sponsor costs!
