  3. Key Points • 463 reported incidents to Metropolitan Police last year – 1/3rd at front counter • Non-crime 180, Assault 105, Harassment 37, Sexual assault 15, Kidnap/FI 16, PP 18 … • Less than 1% referrals from schools • MPS provide bespoke support prioritising safety

Police Investigation • Consider arrest strategy • Flagging & restrict • DNA/Fingerprints/photos • Risk assessment/MARAC • Family tree • Mentor contact number • Emergency phone • Refuge, Referrals, IDVA • Safe words • Civil Orders • If at station – specialist engaged • Awareness of interpreter/solicitor intervention

  9. Practical Considerations • Remove VIW where possible – bail insufficient • Always complete 124d • Use interpreters/solicitors from far afield

Staying Safe • If travelling abroad (in fear): • Copy of passport with friend in UK • Secret phone (+/-), number to friend • Ask friend to alert authority if not back • Tell someone where you are travelling to • Memorise number for forced marriage unit • Marriages can be annulled on return • Spoon in knickers!
