What Is A Communications Specialist? -A Communications Specialist Is The first link in the emergency response system, and serves as the Township’s intermediary between emergency situations and proper emergency personnel. -Communications Specialists convey information to appropriate personnel, and dispatch personnel to emergency scenes and calls

  4. What Does A Communications Specialist Do? • CALL TAKING • Answers 9-1-1 calls and non-emergency calls • Gathers and evaluates information • Initiates response of proper Police, Fire, or E.M.S. units

  5. What Does A Communications Specialist Do? • DISPATCH POLICE • Coordinate officers’ response to calls • Monitor all police radio communications • Monitors on scene activities of officers to assist with officer safety • Run L.E.A.D.S. ( Law Enforcement Automated Data System) inquiries • Contact vehicle owners, business owners, etc. to relay information from officers • Types and prepares reports, legal documents, etc. as requested

What Does A Communications Specialist Do? • DISPATCH FIRE / E.M.S. • Make sure the proper units are sent from the correct stations • Contact Mutual Aid if necessary • Monitor all Fire / E.M.S. radio communications • Monitor on scene emergency operations to assist with firefighter safety • Update E.M.S. of patient status and hospitals capacity status

  7. QUALIFACTIONS / TRAINING • High school diploma • Satisfactory background investigation • The department will provide you with all of the training required in the 12 week on the job training program. • In addition to the training provided it is helpful to posses some of the following abilities

Abilities That Assist A Communications Specialist • Good communications skills • Be able to work flexible hours • Work well with others • Interpret policies and procedures • Follow directions in written, oral, or picture form • Maintain a professional demeanor • Maintain a variety or records and logs • Ambitious • Detail oriented

Abilities That Assist A Communications Specialist • Be able to handle violent or emotionally distraught callers • Multi- task • Work well in high stress situations • Be able to monitor several things at once and respond accordingly • Recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action

  10. What does Union Township Have To Offer? • Annual salary of $ 30,430- $ 41,620 + overtime • Paid Health, Life, and Dental Insurance • 12 Work days vacation beginning after 1 year. (Increase each year after 5 years max. of 24 work days a year) • 11 Paid Holidays a year • $ 3,000 a year for tuition reimbursement • Paid Uniform Dry-cleaning • A 4 day on and 2 day off work schedule • Friendly work environment • International accredited police and fire departments • Membership in the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Labor Council
