1. John Nash Born on June 13, 1928 presently 84 years of age PowerPoint by: Logan Simmons
2. Photographs of John Nash
3. Biographical Data Born in Bluefield, West Virginia
Educated at standard schools in Bluefield
However he also learned much from his home
During high school he took supplementary courses at Bluefield College
Higher Education began at Carnegie Tech
Graduate study was at Princeton, where he also became an instructor
He left Princeton to become an instructor at MIT
While on sabbatical he got married in 1957
Soon after his marriage he became delusional and spent 5-8 months in hospitals involuntarily
As time passed he would have periods of rationality where he would return to his mathematical research over a 25 year time period
Won the Noble Prize in 1994 for his work in Game Theory
To this day he still lectures about his mathematical research and passes it on to others
4. Contributions to Mathematics Proved Brouwer's fixed point theorem
Broke one of Riemann's most perplexing mathematical conundrums
Discovery relating to manifolds and real algebraic varieties
Ground breaking proofs of partial differential equations
Proved Isometric embeddability of abstract Riemannian manifolds in “Euclidean” spaces
The Problem of Cauchy for E’Differential Equations of a Fluid General
Arc Structure of Singularities
Analyticity of Solutions of Implicit Function Problems Analytic Data
5. Other Important Fields of Contribution Game Theory- Attempted to explain the dynamics of human conflict by analyzing strategies used in games.
Nash Equilibrium-(is part of game theory) Strategies of all players would be consistent in that each player would choose their best response to the choices of others
Nash Bargaining Solution- That is 2 person cooperative games
Nash Programme- The reduction of all cooperative games into non-cooperative framework
6. Explanation and Example of Game Theory Game theory is used in many aspects of life from sports to business, economics, law, politics, war, and social life
An example of game theory used in sports is the decisions coaches must make given the circumstances of a play/situation.
