  2. BUDGET • $3,000 • TIMELINE • Fundraise: 5/31-7/5 • Build: 7/6-9/5 • Sprout relaunch: 9/6

  3. MARK 1:14-15

  4. "When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he left Judea and returned to Galilee.  He went first to Nazareth, then left there and moved to Capernaum, beside the Sea of Galilee, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.  This fulfilled what God said through the prophet Isaiah:  Matt 4:12-14, NLT

  5. "Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea, will be filled with glory. The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine."  Isaiah 9:1-2, NLT

  6. CAPERNAUM • 1500-3000 people. Mix of Jews & Gentiles • Roman “strategic post” • Military outpost • Tax polling station/customs house • Center for commerce. Fishing, farming, food grinders • Jewish • Most elaborate synagogue in Galilee • Viewed negatively by religious establishment in Jerusalem • Via Maris

  7. Discuss Why was Capernaum a strategic location for Jesus to start building his kingdom?

  8. Later on, after John was arrested, Jesus went into Galilee, where he preached God’s Good News. Mark 1:14, NLT

  9. “The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!” Mark 1:14, NLT

  10. “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” Mark 2:17, NLT

  11. Discuss What is your reaction to these bold words of CH Spurgeon? “Every Christian here is either a missionary or an impostor.”

  12. MARK 1:14-15
