  3. STAR Testing • March 5 – 4th grade Writing • April 22 – May 3 – 2nd – 6th grade Math and E/LA and 5th Science • http://star.cde.ca.gov/

  4. ADEPT • ADevelopmental English Proficiency Test • One on one assessment • Focuses on grammatical structures and verb tenses • Teachers given the results so they can focus on those areas • Parents should have received the results when they arrived

How Reading Supports English Learners • Grammar and Mechanics • Sight Words • Vocabulary • Comprehension • 2nd language acquisition • 2,000 – 3,000 words as a base to be able to read 80% of the text • The best way to learn… is to Read, Read, Read! • Students should read at their level – Reading Counts • Read lots of variety • Picture books • Non fiction picture books • Non fiction magazines • Series • Comic books
