  5. Recognising an opportunity together 20,000 - 30,000 hectares of publicly owned and deemed uneconomic broadleaved woodland and conifer plantations in the Upper Rhondda. Published data suggesting that more than a third of households in the area are in fuel poverty. The rate of unemployment and those claiming any benefit is more than 25% higher in Rhondda than the national average. We think a business case writes its self here! Local Wood Fuel Supply Chain Company

  6. Strategic Drivers • Valleys Regional Park, 2010-14 • Heads of the Valleys woodland plan, FCW 2010 • Natural Resources Wales created, Treherbert 2013 • Well-being of Future Generations Act, WG 2015 • Rhondda Area Trial (Area Statement) NRW, 2016 • Create Your Space Lottery / WG funding, Rhondda 2017 • Development of Public Service Boards, PSB plans 2017-18

  7. Is it going to get any easier? • NO, not unless; • Accountability of policy makers. • Commitment (on the ground) from Statutory Sector staff to support existing govt the policy. • Long term planning/investment for long term outcomes (a 50-100yr+ vision). • PSB plans reflect the aspirations of communities and the act that created them.
