Current situation • There is evidence for shale gas in the Netherlands • Several exploration licences granted • Little is known about volumes and recoverability • Huge opposition (NIMBY effect) • Exploration drilling on hold • Research into possible risks underway • Recently a majority in Parliament was in favour of exploration drilling, but social democrats changed position yesterday under pressure of members • TNO is active: • Advisor Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs • Conducting Research (JIP with operators active in the Netherlands)
