  1. Electricity from Magnetism p.736

  2. Electromagnetic Induction • An electric current is induced in a conductor when the conductor moves through a magnetic field.

  3. Direct Current • A current consisting of charges that flow in one direction only.

  4. Alternating Current • Charges that move back and forth in a circuit as a result of a wire in a magnetic field being moved up and down repeatedly.

  5. Generators • Devices that transform mechanical energy into electrical energy. • Uses motion in a magnetic field to produce an electric current. • Can be AC or DC.

  6. Turbine • A large circular device made up of many blades that spin, generating electrical current.

  7. Transformers • A device that increases or decreases voltage. • Used to transmit electrical energy from generating plants. • Can be used in florescent lights, TVs, and X-ray machines.
