  1. Javakhk Ջաւախք

  2. Javakhk was part of historic Armenia and was known as Koukark. During a war between the Russian & Ottoman Empires, the Armenians of Javakhk were massacred by the Turks. Today it is a region in Georgia, neighboring Armenia to the North

  3. Javakhk is split into originally 4 different towns. The main regions of Javakhk are the middle four; Akhaltsukha(pink), Asbinza (Blue), Akhalakalak (Orange) and NinosMinda (green).

  4. Georgians themselves are the biggest minority within their own country, there are a lot of different cultures and people within the country. Everyday life is very hard in Javakhk. The roads are not built, Armenians are fired from their jobs with no explanation and pushed to leave the countryso there could be more Georgians in the country.

  5. For Example: There was one Hospital within Javakhk that was sponsored by the Armenian Relief Society. In late 2008 the Georgian Government took over the Hospital and spiked the prices making it almost impossible for the citizens to use its services. Also, while some of the towns are much more developed there are others which are not; for example Garzakh’s sewage system runs through its streets

  6. Javakhkis very rich in farming potatoes since it is the only possibility in agriculture because it has very cold weather and it snows a lot. It is almost impossible to travel to Javakhk during winter.

  7. Javakhk Armenians have their own dialect as well as other unique cultural traits

  8. Akhalkalak and Akhaltsukhacities (Where the Javakhk Camps are) have their own Youth Centers. In the past these centers have been threatened to be taken away by the government but the ARS has fought to keep the doors open. These centers are also used as schools, they have computers, kitchens, musical instruments etc.

  9. The region contains rich Armenian history. The world’s second oldest Bible from around the world.

  10. No mater what the situation, the community continues to stay strong and the youth vibrant.

  11. Last year, for the first time, AYF and ARS planned a camp for kids YOUR age in Javakhk. It was for a week, and included fun games, educationals, field trips just like Camp Haiastan. It was a Great Success! Now we are palling Camp Javakhk 2013!

  12. Why is Camp Javakhk important? Shows the Javakhk that even though they live in difficult conditions, we are thinking about them and ready to help

  13. Give the kids of Javakhk a chance to learn about many different things that they don’t get to learn about.

  14. Make sure they have a fun summer like we do here at home or at Camp Haiastan

  15. Now you can be apart of this Project! One Junior member will be selected to be a part of the committee that plans Camp Javakhk!

  16. Ask your Advisor How!
