  2. Jim O’Hare ACA • Principal Teaching Fellow and Examinations Officer • jo88@le.ac.uk

  3. 240 credits! • Each degree in the department is made up of 16 modules each worth 15 “credits” • You have completed 8 modules in your 2nd year and will do 8 more this year • 1st year marks do not contribute to your degree • The year 2 modules have a weighting of 40% • The year 3 modules have a weighting of 60% • To pass a module you need a mark ≥ 40%....... • …..but a mark of 35% will be accepted as a pass if your overall average mark is ≥ 40% (“pass for credit”)

  4. To progress from Year 2 to Year 3 • You need to have a weighted average mark of ≥ 40% with no marks less than 35% • If you meet the criteria to progress you cannot re-sit modules to try to improve your overall average score.

  5. At June 2013 • Calculate a weighted average mark based on 40% of the year 2 average mark and 60% of the year 3 average mark

  6. Getting a first • A weighted average mark of ≥ 70% with no more than 2 failed modules • OR • 8 modules with a mark of ≥ 70% and a weighted average mark of ≥ 67% with no more than 2 fails • Meeting the above criteria with 3 fails will get a 2.1

  7. Getting a 2.1 • A weighted average mark of ≥ 60% with no more than 2 failed modules • OR • 8 modules with a mark of ≥ 60% and a weighted average mark of ≥ 57% with no more than 2 fails • Meeting the above criteria with 3 fails will get a 2.2

  8. Getting a 2.2 • A weighted average mark of ≥ 50% with no more than 2 failed modules • OR • 8 modules with a mark of ≥ 50% and a weighted average mark of ≥ 47% with no more than 2 fails • Meeting the above criteria with 3 fails will get a 3rd class degree

  9. Getting a 3rd • A weighted average mark of ≥ 40%

  10. Getting a pass • A weighted average mark of ≥ 35%
