Purpose The IPS Elements Guidebook will serve as a reference guide and training aid for the Product Support Manager (PSM), Life Cycle Logisticians, and other career field professionals (e.g., cost estimators) It picks up where Appendix A of the Product Support Manager (PSM) Guidebook leaves off by: Filling in the specifics of the PSM Activities Increasing the number of PSM activities from 200 to over 500 Providing standard definitions for IPS Sub-Elements Adding additional product support information (e.g., who, what, where, when, how and why)

Background DASD(MR) – Product Support Business Model established – 2008 to 2010 PSM Guidebook published - April 2011 PSM Guidebook’s Appendix A built upon traditional 10 Integrated Logistics Elements - but updated to reflect needs of the PSM Developed IPS Elements using an Integrated Product Team with full Services participation The result is the set of 12 Integrated Product Support Elements with 2 new Elements: Product Support Management and Sustaining Engineering The IPS Elements Guidebook picks up Appendix A’s Element goals, definitions and sub-element breakout to further develop and explain implementation

IPS Elements INTEGRATED PRODUCT SUPPORT Design Interface Packaging, Handling, Storage &Transportation (PHS&T) Support Equipment Training & Training Support Technical Data Facilities & Infrastructure Computer Resources Manpower & Personnel Maintenance Planning & Management Sustaining Engineering Supply Support Product Support Management Product Support is enabled by 12 Integrated Product Support (IPS) Elements designed to deliver system readiness & availability while optimizing system life cycle cost 4

Content Outline The IPS Element Guidebook is arranged by Integrated Product Support (IPS) Element Each Element has its own chapter organized per the outline in the graphic The Guidebook is written from the perspective of the PSM, but it is applicable to anyone needing further knowledge of Life Cycle Logistics and Performance Based Outcome Life Cycle Product Support Within each chapter are numerous references and training resources - all active web-linked so the reader can further research specific topics

Status IPS Element Guidebook Review Completed Adjudicated Comments - 490 comments received from DoD Components, U.S. Coast Guard, and Industry Representatives Updating Guidebook to incorporate comments Performing quality checks on hyperlinks Aligning the IPS Sub- Elements between the PSM Guidebook and the IPS Elements Guidebook Reviewing definitions
  8. Issues Some comments need additional follow-up to ensure intent is understood - additional information may be requested Further adjudication of IPS Element sub-element structure and definitions continues Need to get the word out

Next Steps Adjudicate Comments – May 2011 thru Jul 2011 Align Sub-Elements with PSM Guidebook – July 2011 Compete IPS Sub-Element standard definitions – July 2011 Develop Web-Enabled Guidebook – Aug 2011 Deploy via DAU ACC – Sep 2011 Integrate IPS Elements into learning assets Get the word out!
