SEMS Team Concept • Teachers are Grouped into Teams by Core Classes • Language Arts/Reading (1 teacher – 2 periods) • Science/Math (1 teacher – 2 periods) • History/PE/Expo (1-3 teachers – 2 periods) • PE & Expo Meet on Alternating Days (M/W or T/Th & alt. F) • Each Team Works with the Same Group of Students • Teachers Meet to Student Concerns • Coordination of Assignments/Activities Ideally, teams will see the same group of students.

Honors Classes Criteria Includes: • Advanced Scores in Reading Comprehension and Writing on Report Card • Advanced Scores on Performance Task • Teacher Recommendation • Other Factors: Study/Work Habits/Citizenship Placement: • No Honors Track • Students can be Placed in Honors Anytime • Middle school counselors make the final decision on placement with teacher and parent input.

Common Core Math Accelerated Class Description: • Same Standards as Common Core Math • Enhanced Performance Tasks and Problem Solving Skills Criteria Includes: • Advanced Scores in Math on Report Card • Advanced Scores on Performance Task • Teacher Recommendation • Other Factors: Study/Work Habits/Citizenship • Pre-Algebra • is no longer being offered • due to Common Core Standards. • Middle school counselors make the final decision on placement with teacher and parent input.

Parent Access to Campus • ALL parents/visitors will check in at the Campus Check-In Station. • This area is where items left at home will be collected. • Students know to read the white board during lunch/passing periods if they left something at home. • Parents are not allowed to visit classrooms without prior approval.

Attendance Boundaries / Transfers Intra-district Students(district residents, but not attending school of residence): Prior to March 31, 2014, you must submit a new Intra-district Transfer Request. Inter-district Students(not a district resident): You do not need to reapply to continue attendance in the San Marcos School District. However, as your student transitions to middle school or high school, you must fill out an Inter-district School Transition Form prior to March 31, 2014. Placement at your requested school will be based upon school capacity after resident students have been placed. Approvals and denials will be granted in accordance with governing board policy (BP 5116.1, 5117.1). Currently, San Elijo Middle and San Marcos High are closed to transfer students (exceptions are made for students who are currently attending or concurrent enrollment of siblings).

Campus Expectations • Phones are OFF during the school day. • Students may use the phone in the AP Office. • No Gum/Sunflower Seeds • Dress Code is Enforced. • No hats or hoods. • No short shorts or skirts. • Straps must be the width of a dollar bill. • Caution against rolling backpacks. • Caution against lunchboxes.
