Example eye color • Vertebrate is an animal with a backbone. Examples are fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. • Fish live their entire lives in water, have slippery scales, and breathe through their gills • Amphibians are frogs, toads, and salamanders. They spend part of their lives in water and part on land. • Reptiles have dry, scaly skin. Reptiles include snakes, lizards, turtles, crocodiles, and alligators. • Birds are vertebrates with feathers and bills that do not have teeth • Mammals have hair or fur and feed their babies milk.
