2. Geography The continent of Australia, with the island state of Tasmania, is approximately equal in area to the United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii). Mountain ranges run from north to south along the east coast, reaching their highest point in Mount Kosciusko. The western half of the continent is occupied by a desert. The Great Barrier Reef, extending about (2,000 km), lies along the northeast coast. The island of Tasmania (67,800 sq km) is off the southeast coast.
3. There are 6 Territories in Australia: Western Australia, Northern Territory, south Australia, Queensland, New south Wales and Victoria.
4. The Northern Territory is a federal territory of Australia, occupying much of the centre of the mainland continent, as well as the central northern regions. It shares borders with Western Australia to the west (129th meridian east), South Australia to the south (26th parallel south), and Queensland to the east (138th meridian east). Uluru also known as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory, central Australia. It lies 335 km (208 mi) south west of the nearest large town, Alice Springs; 450 km (280 mi) by road. KataTjuta and Uluru are the two major features of the Uluṟu-KataTjuṯa National Park. Uluru is sacred to the Aṉangu, the Aboriginal people of the area. It has many springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru is listed as a World Heritage Site. The Northern Territory.
5. Western Australia is a state of Australia, occupying the entire western third of the Australian continent. It is bordered by the Indian Ocean to the north and west, the Great Australian Bight and Indian Ocean to the south, the Northern Territory to the north-east and South Australia to the south-east. This isolated gold rush town just has to be one of the most interesting places in Australia. About 563km east of Perth, the Kalgoorlie area was subjected to a gold rush when Paddy Hannan discovered the precious metal near here in 1893. The famous Golden Mile was regarded as the richest bit of real estate in the world at one time, yielding up more than 1300 tonnes of gold. Western Australia.
6. South Australia is a state of Australia in the southern central part of the country. It covers some of the most arid parts of the continent; with a total land area of 983,482 square km. South Australia shares borders with all of the mainland states and the Northern Territory. It is bordered to the west by Western Australia, to the north by the Northern Territory, to the north-east by Queensland, to the east by New South Wales, to the south-east by Victoria, and to the south by the Great Australian Bight and the Indian Ocean. 7. Queensland is a state of Australia that occupies the north-eastern section of the mainland continent. It is bordered by the Northern Territory to the west, South Australia to the south-west and New South Wales to the south. To the east, Queensland is bordered by the Coral Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Wallaman Falls, Girrigun National Park One of the most important natural places in Queensland is undoubtedly the Tambourine National Park, which is located about 45 miles south of the city of Brisbane. New South Wales (abbreviated as NSW), is Australia's most populous state, and is located in the south-east of the country, north of Victoria, south of Queensland, east of South Australia, west of Jervis Bay Territory and encompasses the whole of the Australian Capital Territory. Victoria is the second most populous state in Australia.[1] Geographically the smallest mainland state, Victoria is bordered by New South Wales to the north, South Australia to the west, and Tasmania to the south, on Boundary Islet. 10. There are many different species of wildlife in Australia. Marsupials are the most successful group in Australia. This group includes kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, Tasmanian wolves, Tasmanian devils, wombats, and many others. The platypus and the echidna are egg-laying mammals. There are also numerous different species of birds. Some of them are cockatoo, kookaburra, lyrebird, the flightless emu, and several types of parrots. Australian animals.
