Main Characteristics • Uses 2.4GHz ISM band – FCC compliant • Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum • Digital • Half Duplex Transceiver (symmetric system) • Range of 10m with possible increase to 30m and 100m (indoor at BER of 10e-4) • Maximum bit rate of 1Mbps • Low power consumption • Low “cost” Barry Volinskey, RFWaves LTD.
Why use high bit rate for low rate applications? • Works from 100Kbps to 1Mbps • Improved Robustness and Coexistence • 128 bits are transmitted in 128Sec • Capable to receive an ACK and retransmit twice within a single Bluetooth hop • Low latency • Lower power consumption • Shorter transceiver on time • As long as the cost is low… Barry Volinskey, RFWaves LTD.
Power Consumption • Peak current consumption of the radio module is 23mA • This includes full cycle of transmitting or receiving at 1Mbps • Transmitting or Receiving 1Kbps at 1Mbps bit rate results in 23A current consumption • No standby current, Wakeup time of 10Sec • Operating voltage of 2.7-5V improvable to 1.5V Barry Volinskey, RFWaves LTD.
