公示语的翻译

定义 • 公示语是指在公共场所展示的文字，具有特殊的交际功能，以及提供信息和完成指令的作用。具体而言，路标、广告、商品说明书、旅游指南、社会宣传、告示等都是公示语。

公示语的特点： • 1）从功能考虑，公示语主要具有提示、指令和参照的特点；2）从风格考虑，公示语主要具有简洁、规约和互文的特点； • 3)从目的考虑，公示语主要具有意动和“收言后之力”的特点。

功能 • 1）提示功能 • 遗失物品店方概不负责 Management nor responsible for articles lost or stolen; • 注意！在本室工作，保持门畅通！ Attention! When working in this room, keep the door open!; • 此处发现鲨鱼 Shark sighted

2）指令功能 • NO FORBIDDEN • 请勿吸烟 No Smoking ； • 请勿接近Keep Out

3）参照功能 • 机场安检 Airport Security ；行李提取处Baggage Claim; • 新鲜果蔬Fresh Produce; • 商务中心Business Center; • 罐头Cans

风格 • 1）简洁性 • 市内公共汽车专用 City Buses Only; • 切勿回返No RE-Entry； • 庭院摊市Yard Sale； • 过街天桥Overpass

2）规约性 • 塔 Pagoda 和Tower；但Pagoda指多层佛塔，tower泛指塔或塔状建筑物白塔、金刚宝座塔用Pagoda,但白塔寺 The Temple of the White Dagoba（舍利佛塔）　　 • 严禁掉头 NO U Turn • 办理入住/离店手续Check In/Check Out

3）互文性（特定的文本形式） • 油漆未干!=Wet Paint! (cf The paint is wet.) • 远离火源=Keep Fire Away(cf Go away from fire); • 非公莫入 No admittance except on business • 闲人免进=Staff Only

公示语误译的实例： • 1）指令不清： • 狮/狒馆 Lion/Baboon • 木径鸟语 Footpath Wooden • 2）意图歪曲： • Export出口Exit • Welcome you again 欢迎下次再来 • Carefully fall down to the River! 小心掉到河里

3）语气不和谐： • T．O．售票处Ticket Ticket/Booking Office(火车站)，Box Office（电影院） • Guest go no further 宾客止步Staffs only • Being Urgent Call 110 Quickly 危难时刻迅速报警Emergency Call 110

4）语用失误： • Don’t Fall Down小心滑跌 Watch Your Step/ Slippery! • Racist Park 民族园 National’ s Park/ Minority’s Park • When there is a fire, don’t use the elevator!遇到火灾勿用电梯Don’t use the elevator in case of fire!

5）术语不匹配： • Police Affairs Station警务工作站Police Station • Eye Hospital 眼科医院Ophthalmology Hospital • Foreign students Dormitory Building留学生公寓International Students Building
