Common Core State Standards

  • This is the new (As of last year) State Standards, no more North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

  • You can find these standards on the Winston Salem Forsyth County Schools website.



Ward Elementary collects the following items:

  • Cleaned drink cans (any)

  • Coke Caps

  • Box tops

    Make sure you “link” your grocery cards to Ward.

  • Their will be a parent night in regards to this in September. It is extremely important for you to understand what this means for your child. (we will let you know ASAP a date).

  • Please look at the handout.

  • Use addition and subtraction flash cards to help with fluency

    • Make your own

    • Deck of cards

    • Use receipts

  • Have your child write his/her own math problem for you to solve.


  • Students will apply strategies to create oral, written, and visual texts through sharing literature, composing writing samples, and producing work that follows the conventions of genres.

  • Listen to your children read every night.


  • Keep a bed time schedule for your children, sleep helps them to perform better in class.

  • Go over homework with your child.

  • Communicate with the teachers.
