Schedules Each student’s schedule will vary in rotation • Homeroom: 7:20am – 7:45am • Writer’s Workshop: 7:48 – 8:38 • 2nd Period – 8:40am – 9:50am • 3rd Period 9:52am – 11:02am • Recess: 11:02am – 11:22am • Lunch: 11:22am – 11:52am • 4th Period: 11:55am – 1:05pm • Specials: 1:10pm – 2:00pm • Homeroom Dismissal 2:05pm

  4. House Program • Students were divided into one of five color houses at the beginning of the year. • Points can be earned for positive behaviors. • Rewards will be given throughout the year for monthly and quarterly benchmarks.

  5. House Program Positive Reinforcement Earn points for your house by… • Being an encourager to your classmates • Having excellent behavior in specials • Exhibiting polite behavior at lunch • Providing insightful answers in class • Walking quietly in the hallway • Helping the custodians with keeping our school clean • Showing respect to your peers and teachers • Lending a helping hand without being asked • Not asking for points • Having excellent behavior for a substitute • Being an awesome Knox Knight!

  6. Consequences for Poor Behavior Consequences for not following the rules… • Name goes on the board –Warning • Check goes next to your name –Loss of Recess • Missing/Incomplete homework results in automatic loss of recess for study hall • Two checks go next to your name –Parent Phone Call • Three checks go next to your name –After School Detention *Some offenses may result in the immediate assigning of after school detention. It may also be assigned as a consequence for habitually breaking the rules. In these situations, it will be left to teacher and/or administrative discretion.

  7. Continued Consequences *It is important to remember that physical contact and other behaviors listed in the Cherokee County Discipline Handbook may bypass the warnings and result in an automatic office referral. Long story short, be the amazing knight that you are, and these consequences will not be an issue for you!

  8. Morning WOrk • Each Monday, students will receive a packet of Morning Work. This packet includes: • Standards related Math practice • Standards related Reading practice • Content related Science practice • Content related Social Studies practice • Standards related Language Arts/Writing practice • These packets are due every Friday at the beginning of homeroom!

  9. Agendas • Most effective communication tool between home and school • Homework is written daily for each class and highlighted. • Separate subjects with lines

  10. Binders As you can see in the bookcases at the right hand side of the room, Science/Social Studies binders are stored for your student’s convenience and as an organizational aid. Your student also has an additional binder that houses his/her agenda, pencil pouch, loose leaf paper, and any other papers accumulated in other classes. It is my hope that keeping binders in a central location will alleviate missing work or study materials.

  11. Science With Mr. Brown Organization: Students will store all classwork in a binder to be kept in the classroom unless the student wants to take it home for study. Content Areas: Cells and Microorganisms Classification Genetics Electricity Chemical and Physical Changes Earth

  12. Social Studies with Mr. Brown We want to learn about the history of our country as part of EFFECTIVE CITIZENSHIP! Informed citizens are effective citizens! We are learning about The Bill of Rights this week – Want to take the Bill of Rights Challenge?

Reading with Mrs. Koopman • Reading skills and concepts will be taught throughout the year. • We are reading various genres. • There are unit novel studies as a test out activity and also as whole class reading. • Book reports will be assigned throughout the school year. • Homework will vary between workbook pages and extra reading passages to reinforce reading for purpose and understanding. • AR goals start in September. 

Language Arts with Homeroom Teacher • Called “Writers’ Workshop” • Our goal is to incorporate grammar, spelling, and vocabulary into writing. • We will use the RAPS strategy to structure our responses to short answer questions. • Types of Writing • Expository/Informational • Narrative • Persuasive • Programs Used • Write to Learn • Microsoft Word • Type to Learn • Grammar and Mechanics - Sentence structure • Parts of speech • Paragraph structure
