  5. Balloon Moving Across the Stage:The Gearbox • Moves balloon horizontally across stage behind door frame • Switch controls direction of balloon • Small pulley acted as weight to hold string taut

  6. Balloon Popping Effect • Balloon held in place by box with Styrofoam cushioning • Pin attached to solenoid • Solenoid pushes pin, balloon pops • Box made by Ellen’s STS project – we’re resourceful!

  7. Balloon Falling Effect • Motor was unpredictable • 2 towels wrapped in opposite directions • Each towel held 3 balloon pieces • Towel used for Trevor to wipe hands

  8. Snow Falling Effect • Holes poked into mailing tube • Styrofoam pieces act as snow • Pole rotates, Styrofoam falls through the holes

  9. A Light Shining Across the Actor’s Face • Wireless box – D batteries • Activates when opened by magnetic proximity switch • Motor turns cardboard wheel with slits • Light inside wheel causes light pattern to appear on actor’s face • System shuts off when box is closed
