  2. No Smoking Day is one of the biggest annual health awareness campaigns in the UK 25 years of No Smoking Day

  3. Meeting the Challenge • In the UK around 450 young people start smoking every day • 60% of adult smokers started before they were 13 • If you start smoking when you're in your teens, get ready for stained teeth, wrinkly skin, shortness of breath • If you pay for your cigarettes, it can be very costly

  4. Why do young people smoke ? • To try it • Their friends / family smoke • They think it looks grown up • They think it keeps their weight down • To rebel • They think it helps with stress

  5. Want to be richer, fitter and more attractive? Here are seven great reasons to quit and some tips that will help you or your friends / family to do it.

  6. 1, You’ll be healthier & less out of breath 2, You’ll save yourself a packet 3, You’re being sold cigarettes even when you don’t realise it 4, The sooner you stop smoking, the sooner your body will repair itself

  7. 5, Quitting helps save the planet 6, You’ll look better 7, The majority of young people don’t think it’s cool to smoke

Some ways to help you through it  1.Make a deal with good friends to quit – some schools run groups for young people who want to stop 2, It’s very hard to give up using willpower alone, so get all the help you can find- Speak to your local GP surgery for advice on Nicotine Replacement Therapy or phone the NHS Stop Smoking Serivce on 0117 3302439 3, Smokers often hate other people quitting, so be prepared for a few put-downs

  9. 4, Preparing to stop is very important 5, Worried about weight gain while you’re quitting? Eat healthily, drink plenty of water and get exercise 6, Get support from your family 7, Do your best to stay away from alcohol, coffee, sugar & sweets when you’re trying to give up 8, And remember... it takes about a month for you to stop craving a cigarette
