  5. Andrea UW-ACE: UW’s ANGEL Course Environment • A bit of history … • UW known for computer technology in research, but … • Software in teaching mostly discipline-specific tools • 2001-03 LT3, DCE, and IST built a learning system based on T5 • Good uptake, did not scale to campus

  6. Andrea UW-ACE • Next steps … • Central funding established for CMS • Chose software from ANGEL Learning Inc. (ALI) • Contracted ALI to build key features missing in ANGEL for T5, DCE: • Team Generator • Team Activity Generator • Export-to-CD

  7. Andrea UW-ACE • Where are we now? • UW-ACE running in its 4th term (just over one year) • First term: 220 courses and 12,000 students • Current term: 500 courses and over 19,000 students • Experiencing some growing pains!

Andrea UW-ACE: Support • Who’s involved in central support? • LT3, IST, DCE, and Faculty computing staff • Who does what • Hardware and software systems: IST • Training and documentation: IST • Campus faculty support: LT3 “Liaisons” and IST • DE faculty support: DCE and IST • Students: everyone 

  9. Andrea UW-ACE: Campus Infrastructure • IST also runs the Student Admin (SA) systems • Integration points: • Course registry (indirect, through SA data extract) • Student enrollment automation (indirect, through SA data extract) • UW-specific final marks export created for upload to SA

  10. Andrea UW-ACE: Directions • UW-ACE Steering Committee guides directions and decisions • Some current issues: • Using UW-ACE for other than academic courses • New features and add-ons? • Growing for increasing needs, and system redundancy/availability
