Warm-Up • Turn to a new page, DATE THE PAGE, and then COPY DOWN the following • For your exam, you should be able to: • Define all terms from Warm-Up 1/31/12 • Identify independent/dependent variables, controls • Draw a correct graph if given data • Which axis is the independent variable graphed on • Which axis the dependent variable graphed on • What information should it include? • Is the graph linear or nonlinear? • Identify which ball/car will bounce/return higher if given slope/measurement • State the outcome of each lab in words/by graph (direct/indirect; linear/nonlinear)
Data Analysis • Create graphs in your notebook • Copy your graphs on a whiteboard • Write a conclusion for the mass lab from 1/31/12 • What are the numbers/graph telling you in WORDS? • What type of relationship do you have? Linear? Non-linear? • Was your hypothesis correct? • We will discuss as a class; Be prepared to share
Concept Application • If we were to calculate a slope for our data, what would it tell us? Would it be positive or negative? Explain using your data. • Suppose you attached a 2nd car and repeated the lab. What do you think making the car heavier would do to your data? • Create 3 examples of inverse relationships with a partner. • How would the return distance for a car that has a mass of 300 g compare to a car that has a mass of 100 g? Which returns more?
Class Discussion • What did you learn from yesterday’s lab? • How did this lab differ from the lab we did yesterday? • Are all relationships linear? • How do you think we could determine an equation or a best fit line for our graph from today (take a guess)
