Would they comply or return to the world? 1 Cor.10:9 “Nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents.”

  17. Dangers We Face in the Wilderness The Danger of Tempting Christ - 10:9 • What About Us? • Could we become dissatisfied with the spiritual blessings promised in Christ and long for material things? • Could we become dissatisfied with the spiritual work that God has given the church to do and pursue secular work? • Could we become dissatisfied with the worship God has prescribed and seek worship styles that please us instead? 1 Cor.10:9 “Nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents.”

  18. Dangers We Face in the Wilderness The Danger of Complaining – 10:10 1 Cor.10:10 “Nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.” • Because of their dissatisfaction with the way God dealt with them, Israel complained, and did so often. • Numbers 14:1-4; 16:1-48, (41) • God destroyed them. • Numbers 16:21-35,45-48

Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. “ • The examples recorded in the Old Testament are there for a reason. • Past lessons affect the wise in a different way than they do the fool.

  22. Dangers We Face in the Wilderness Conclusion 1 Corinthians 10:12 “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” • The danger of falling is just as real for us as it was for the Israelites and Corinthians. • To think that we cannot fall is foolish.

  23. Dangers We Face in the Wilderness Conclusion 1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” • Temptation will come! • God is faithful. • The devil is limited. • God will provide a way of escape. • We can do it.
