  4. PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR (P.I.) New Scholar versus Regular: NEW SCHOLAR = has not yet had opportunity to establish extensive record of research achievement A) Never been P.I. on previous SSHRC grant (Standard, MCRI or Strategic) and B) Highest degree completed since January 1998 or tenure-track position held for less than five years or career significantly interrupted or delayed for family reasons Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

  5. Research/Creation Grant in Fine Arts Objectives • The broad purpose of the five-year (2003-08) pilot program is to support and develop excellence in research in artistic disciplines. An artistic discipline is defined as one or more of the following categories: architecture, design (including interior design), creative writing, visual arts (including ceramics, textiles, etc.), performing arts (dance, music, theatre), film, video, performance art, interdisciplinary arts, media and electronic arts, and new artistic practices Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

  6. Research/Creation Grants in Fine Arts • Support high-quality research/creation • Graduate and undergraduate students • dissemination and presentation to a broad public • collaboration Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

Research/Creation Grantsin Fine Arts • development of one or more forms of artistic expression (i.e., the proposed project represents a new development, is original, innovative, or renews some aspect of the field) • training of students • enrichment of Canadian and/or international culture Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

  8. AWARDS • Three years (renewable) • April 1, 2004 - March 31, 2007 • Results announced in March/April 2004 • Average three-year award is $82,000 for SRG • Max. $100,000 per year, up to $250,000 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

SCORING OF APPLICATIONS REGULAR SCHOLAR - 60% research achievement - 40% proposed program of research NEW SCHOLAR - 60/40 split (most favourable score between research record and proposed program of research) TEAMS - Single score for research achievement (based on individual achievements of team members – weighting determined by P.I. status ) MINIMUM SCORE - At least 60% in both categories Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

BUDGET • Personnel, travel/subsistence, professional/technical services, computer, equipment, supplies, other expenses • Salary range averages - Masters students: $12,000 per year - Doctoral students: $15,000 per year - PDFs: $31,500 per year Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

Application Procedures • It is strongly recommended to submit your grant application prior to/by the internal deadline to the Office of Research SRG Wednesday, October 1st, 2003 (Agency deadline: Wednesday, Oct. 15th, 2003) RCG Monday, November 3rd, 2003 (Agency deadline: Monday, Nov. 17th, 2003) Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

Application Procedures • A strict internal deadline for the faculties have been instituted. • Please be aware that if you miss the internal deadline the application procedure will change. • Submission of your grant application will have to be made directly to the office of the appropriate Faculty Dean.
