  1. BANNEKER MIDDLE SCHOOL MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS February 1, 2011

  2. MSA TIP OF THE DAY • The MSA Reading test is composed of two types of questions. All grades will have SRs (Selected Response items or commonly known as multiple choice items) and BRCs (Brief Constructed Response items). Selected response items will offer four answer choices. BCRs require you to write an answer consisting of a few sentences. So, the MSA Tip of the Day is: • “The more you know about the test format, the less anxious you should be.”

  3. ATTENTION 7th PERIOD TEACHERS • If you have not emailed Ms. Sheftell your 7th Period attendance this morning, please do so at this time.

  4. ATTENTION – LUNCH CHANGES • The following Period 1 classes will report to class FIRST then lunch. • Ms. Francis’ Period 1 ESOL 2 report to CLASS immediately after Period 1 then lunch. • Ms. Dean’s 8th grade orchestra students need to come to orchestra class first then lunch. • Ms. Maione’s 8th grade First Period French will report to CLASS first then lunch. • The following Period 2 classes will report to 2nd Period FIRST then lunch. • Mrs. Proteau’s 2nd period math class must report to 2nd period immediately after 1st period. You will go to lunch after 2nd period.

  5. BOY’S BASKETBALL • Boy’s Basketball players will be released at 2:15 today for an away game at Rosa Parks. • Report to the locker room immediately. • Beat Rosa Parks – Coach O’Dell

Afterschool Activities TODAY’S ACTIVITIES ARE: • French Club • Homework Club • Intramural Weight Training • Spanish Homework Help • SGA • SERT • Rock & Soul Rehearsal CANCELLED : Algebra Homework Club is cancelled today Repeat – there will be no Algebra Homework Club today. • If you are staying for an Activity and forgot to notify your parents – you will be allowed to call today from the Main Office DURING YOUR LUNCH PERIOD ONLY. Please ask for a pass from the lunchroom.

  7. GEMS • YES!!!!!!!! • GEMS will meet TOMORROW, Wednesday, February 2nd in Ms. Itwaru’s Room 101B. • All GEMS members must be in Room 101B by 2:50 to participate in the After School Snack! • We have BIG plans for you tomorrow - including games and prizes! Plan to come - don’t miss it! • See you there!

  8. Basketball Season Begins…. Good Morning Banneker: Our Lady Bobcats played a very close game with Parkland last Tuesday. The lead changed several times throughout the contest. We were up by as many as 4 points during the closing minutes. We made a few mental mistakes and were unable to recover the points. Phajia Hutchinson led the team with 14 points. Tatiyana McClaney, Courtney Hutchinson, and Stephanie Woodson also scored. The team is showing much improvement with each game. Our next game is today against Rosa Parks. Please come out and support your Lady Bobcats. Coach - Ms. Vails

FREE HOMEWORK HELP! • Will the Ground Hog see his shadow tomorrow morning?  Who knows---but you’ll probably see some homework tonight!  It’s a new month, and Homework Hotline Live is here to help!  • After school, go to “Ask H-H-L dot org” or call 301-279-3234, and receive extra homework help from a teacher.   • You can see the H-H-L teachers and watch them solving problems at “Ask H-H-L dot org”, or on MCPS cable TV from 4 to 6 o’clock.  So write it down:  • “Ask H-H-L dot org”, and the phone number:  301-279-3234.  Older students -- you can post questions through Facebook too.  Just search for “Homework Hotline Live”.

  10. ATTENTION CHORUS, BAND, AND ORCHESTRA STUDENTS! • All chorus students interested in going to the Cherry Blossom festival must give the $25 fee and permission slip to Dr. Stoll immediately. • All chorus, band and orchestra students interested in going on the New York trip must turn in a deposit and permission slip to Ms. Dean or Dr. Stoll immediately.

  11. INTERESTED IN SOCCER? • Coach Mauzy is getting a list together of boys interested in playing soccer. • If you are a 7th or 8th boy and think you would like to play – please sign the sheet in the front hall on Wednesday morning. • Listen to the announcements about the mid-February Interest Meeting date.
