OceanMAPS integrates multiple sources of ocean data, such as GODAE, Argo, buoy, and XBT, which are downloaded twice daily. An IDL code, operated by NMOC, processes these datasets by selecting the best observations based on their quality control level and arrival date while rejecting duplicate profiles. The system generates a netCDF file containing the optimal daily observations for the period from January 2005 to June 2006. This process supports the Indian Ocean Predictability project by assimilating temperature data and evaluating the impact of salinity data on model performance in data-sparse regions.

OceanMAPS Duplicate Checker • Data sources (downloaded twice daily): GODAE Argo profiles CoriolisArgo profiles GTSArgo profiles, buoy and XBT data • IDL code now run by NMOC • Selects best daily observations based on data state, QC level and arrival date. • Rejects duplicate profiles • Creates a netcdf file to hold the best observations for a particular day • Generating files for Jan 2005 – June 2006 Claire Spillman (BMRC)
Indian Ocean Predictability • Assimilate all available temperature data Argo profiles XBT Buoy and TAO array • Compare results with and without Argo data • Impacts of salinity data assimilation? • Model performance in data sparse regions?
