Clinical features • Often asymptomatic • Usually painful at late stage • Vary greatly range from a small erythematous patch through a large swelling or area of ulceration • Painless • Non healing ulcer (>2weeks) • Rolled margins • Common sites: floor of the mouth, tongue, retromolar region • Indurated • Slow growing • Has risk of metastasis • May be in the form of a hard plaque or a papule, often with an opalescent quality, with tiny blood vessels • The tumor can lie below the level of the surrounding skin, and eventually ulcerates and invades the underlying tissue
