  2. Why are we here today ? • The Armed Forces, their Serving Men and Women, Reservists and their Dependants have a major role in the life of Hampshire. They have shaped much of the County’s history, influence many communities and the County Council’s economy, are a major employer and a major consumer of services. • Because of what the Armed Forces are required to do, they have special pressures and needs for support. • We’re all involved in providing that support

  3. What are the aims of today? • To improve awareness and understanding of the issues faced by the armed forces community and veterans • to enable us to make better links • to improve effectiveness of services.

Armed forces welfare agencies Service charities Reps from all three services, Army, Naval Services, RAF Local statutory sector leads Service providers HCC Experts in Adaptations, Domestic Abuse, Housing, Mental Health, Older Peoples Wellbeing, Substance Misuse, Supporting People, Safeguarding, Health, Children’s Services, Community Safety and Employment

  10. What is the Welfare Pathway? • Making sure that the Armed Forces community have access to the help and support they need • Through life care • What does it look like ?

The HCC Commitment • Recognition at Cabinet level of the importance of the Armed Forces to the people, communities and economy of Hampshire and their need for specific support. • Intention to strengthen links with Armed Forces • Intention to better plan decisions affecting services for people, investment, the environment and the local economy • Working together to make sure that the Armed Forces community have access to the help and support their special role requires • This is based around the principle of ‘no disadvantage through Service’ in the Armed Forces and a recognition of the specific needs during Service and after leaving the Forces • The County Council Cabinet wishes to celebrate its links to the Armed Forces and their contribution to Hampshire.
