Depression Matters • Studies have shown that employees who are depressed are less productive and are absent more often • Other studies have shown that organized screening and enhanced depression treatment can significantly improve health • Systematic efforts to identify and treat depression in the workplace: • Significantly improves employee health and productivity • Leads to lower costs overall for the employer • Journal of the American Medical Association - September 26, 2007 • Few employers have implemented such programs, in part because their return on investment is unclear.

Depression Matters • Depression continues to be one of the top conditions and cost drivers for our population • Percentage of members with depression and the total cost is increasing • Mood disorders are often triggered by environmental factors • Depression is under-diagnosed and under-treated Depression
