  3. Respect and Responsibility We treat each other with respect. We are responsible for our actionsand choices.

  4. Classroom Expectations • Work quietly. • Listen. • Follow directions. • Take turns. • Raise your hand to speak. • Keep your hands and feet to yourself. • Quiet in the hall. • No running in the hall. • Treat others the way you want to be treated. • No bullying.

First Grade Curriculum • First Grade is very different from Kindergarten. • The curriculum is more intense and we have to move at a certain pace in order to cover the skillsand prepare your child for second grade. • Even though we do not have to take the GCRCT, we do have benchmarks in reading, math, language,science, and social studies. • Your child needs to become more independent. After receiving instruction and guided practice, students need to be able to complete assignments on their own. • I will be there to help if questions arise. However, I willnot do every question with them.

  7. Study Hall Your child will be given ample time to complete an assignment. If the assignment is not completed in the time given, he/she will spend time in study hall completing the assignment. Mrs. O’Malley will be in charge of study hall. She will help students complete their assignments. Study hall occurs during recess time.

  8. Grading System O – Outstanding S – Satisfactory N – Needs Improvement U - Unsatisfactory

  9. Agendas need to be initialed each night and returned to school the following day.Take-home folders go home Mondays. Please look over your child's work. Keep the work at home, sign the parent's signature sheet, and return the folder on Tuesdays.

  10. Homework Homework packets go home on Mondays. The packets are due the following Monday. It is designed to complete one sheet a night. You may decide to complete the homeworkat one sitting. Do what you think is best foryour child.

  11. Accelerated Reader Read an A.R. book and take an Accelerated Reader quiz Accelerated Reader Book Finder Complete the reading assessment form on an A.R. book. The form is located on the class website. When the form is sent to school, I knowyour child is ready to take an A.R. test. A.R. testscan only be taken at school. Form You may take some forms tonight before you leave.

  12. Classroom Tests Class Website • Please be sure to check the class website. I frequently posts photos and student work. • You will also find a copy of the newsletterin case you need it. Reading Tests – Thursdays Spelling Tests – Fridays Dictation Tests – Fridays Math Tests – Unit Completion
