  1. THE BUILDING OF THE UNIVERSITY OF OVIEDO The University of Oviedo was founded by Archibishop Fernando de Valdés Salas. It was founded in 1568. Oviedo was a small city with a population, of about 5.000 people and the cultural level was very low. The bulding was inaugurated on 21st of september of 1608.

  2. THE EXTERNAL APPEARENCE IS AUSTERE, COMPACT AND SOLID. THE DECORATION IS SIMPLE AND IT HAS TWO STORYS.

  3. INSIDE, THERE IS SQUARE COURTYARD SURROUNDED BY ARCADES OF TOSCAN STYLE. IN THE MIDLLE OF THE COURTYARD STANDS THE FOUNDER´S STATUE.

  4. IN THE UPPER STORY, THERE ARE A JONIC STYLE CALAMNS. THE GENERAL IMPRESION IS OF RHYTHUM AND ELEGANT.

  5. OVER THE ROOF STANDS OUT A SMALL TOWER ON THE CORNER, WITH TWO BELLS AND ONE CLOCK.

  6. THERE ARE TWO GATEWAYS. IN THE MAIN GATEWAY, WE CAN SEE TWO DORIC CALAMS, AND IN THE UPPER STORY THE FOUNDER´S COATS OF ARMS, AND ONE SMALL WINDOW IN THE MIDDLE.
