  1. ICCDU XIII Singapore 2015 About Singapore Singapore has established itself on the global stage with its economic influence and achievement. From a manufacturing base, it has evolved into a regional financial hub, a global logistics hub, and now a budding center for emerging technology, R&D, as well as arts and entertainment. Singapore is centrally located and well connected to the entire region (ASEAN, Australia, China, & India), Europe and the Americas by 80 airlines serving over 190 cities in 59 countries. In this dynamic city-state, weather is the only constant with a six-sigma variation of 28±5 °C. If there is one word that best captures Singapore, it is “unique”. A dynamic vibrant city rich in contrast and color, you'll find a harmonious blend of culture, cuisine, arts and architecture here. Brimming with unbridled energy, this little dynamo in Southeast Asia embodies the finest of both East and West. A single day's trail will take you from the past to the future, from exotic ethnic enclave to efficient business center, from serene gardens to sleek skyscrapers. With its friendly and welcoming people, state-of-the-art infrastructure and something new happening everyday, Singapore is a holiday like no other. The chemical and pharmaceutical industries are major pillars of the Singapore economy. Singapore consistently ranks among the world’s top three oil trading locations and is recognized as a global leader in oil refining. As a dedicated and vertically integrated complex, Jurong Island is the centerpiece of Singapore’s chemicals industry and is today home to more than 90 leading petroleum, petrochemicals, and specialty chemicals companies from all over the world, including the top 50 Global Companies. Also, home to six of the world’s top ten pharmaceutical companies and world-class research institutions, Singapore is fast becoming one of the most exciting hubs for biomedical sciences in Asia. Singapore as a global village starkly mirrors the multi-scale nature of today’s chemical industry.
