Context • EAP 222 - Speaking / Listening Course (3 cr.) • Objectives: • lecture note-taking • discussions • presentations • compensation skills • pronunciation & suprasegmentals • sociolinguistic awareness • Hybrid model • 3 hours in class + online lecture modules • Extended speaking practice
Speaking Circles • Groups of 4 to 5 students • selected by instructor • mix of ages, genders, L1s, cultures, maturity, ability, leadership, etc. • Meet outside of class • weekly, 10 times • 90 minutes minimum • on or off campus • English only
SC Meeting Focus • 2 social events • 2 cultural events • 2 events with NS guest(s) • 2 volunteering events • 1 study session • 1 free one
SC Assessment • Blog / Written Report • weekly (one per team) • summary • response • analysis of communication • Video Dropbox • CLEAR Rich Internet App • biweekly (each member) • Presentation
