  8. The Relational Organizing Method: “Organizing is providing people with the opportunity to become aware of their own capabilities and potential.” — Fred Ross, Sr.

  9. THE most effective union representation is grounded on a proven logical method, “Relational Organizing.” Relational Organizing is also referred to as the Constant Organizing Goals method-“the COG method” All good “Organizing” is or includes “Relational Organizing.” Generalizations:

  10. Generalizations: Building power based on mutual, shared self-interests. But it is not about “touchy feely” feelings. Organizing is about an outcome:

  11. Generalizations: Relational Organizing: • Requires unions to build public relationships involving a quid pro quo interchange driven by self-interest and guaranteed by mutual accountability.

  13. Nature of Relational Organizing Relational Organizing using the COG method is characterized by: • Listen: To build power and relationships. • Plan: To strategically plan and navigate the path from goals to the tactics.

  14. Nature of Relational Organizing • Relational Organizing using the COG method is characterized by: • Act: To deploy the Strategies and employ the tactics • Evaluate: To assess and adjust the union’s collective, concerted actions.

  24. Effective organizing requires both thoughtful and sophisticated action and trained organizers. Feed-back and accountability must be an integral part of the action. Action Requires Accountability
