Steps • Obtain in-depth knowledge on VoIP and understand the implementation process of VoIP • Understand the network at University of Namibia • Deploy VoIP • Understand methods of traffic shaping and implement it on the VoIP link • Test live video by sending real-time video stream to SIP agents Rhodes University - Department of Computer Science

Challenges • Geographic separation makes it challenging to streamline VoIP deployment between UNAM and Rhodes • Liaise with UNAM network administrator to open discussions with UNAM’s ISP for traffic shaping • Liaise with UNAM’s ISP to implement VoIP traffic prioritization for SIP messages sent from Rhodes • Recess at UNAM made access to campus facilities difficult and thus delaying the deployment process • Due to limited bandwidth at UNAM critical iLanga installations were delayed for long periods of time Rhodes University - Department of Computer Science

Work to be done Based on my milestones I am slightly ahead of schedule but demanding practical work is to be done in the next two terms • Finalise the installation of iLanga at UNAM • Create a test bed at Rhodes to experiment with traffic shaping • Implement traffic shaping at UNAM’s ISP • Determine the optimum codec to use on the VoIP link • Test link to see if live video can be sustained Rhodes University - Department of Computer Science
