  1. India’s music streaming war has officially begun YouTube is one among the steady stream of companies that is trying to penetrate the internet savvy Indian market. After witnessing the gargantuan impact of an Indian audience that made T-series the most subscribed YouTube channel in the world, they were bound to capitalize on the trend. In the words of YouTube Director of Product Management for Music Products T Jay Fowler, “We are seeing a lot of engagement across diverse set of content in India and India is exporting tremendous amount of music culture. We have seen an explosive growth in terms of consumption in India over last two years and I think it will be missed opportunity if we don’t bring YouTube music experience or delay any further.” He continues with, “This has been consistent over the last few numbers of months; what we are seeing is Indian music dominating globally. India is an amazing market for us. The product that is launching in India is quite different from what we have launched elsewhere in the world.” YouTube has currently launched both paid and free versions of this music streaming app that offers all kinds of music. Whether it’s Indian music, Western music or just instrumental, they are streaming it all on demand. Google market research trends already highlight the incredible growth in active user count from India (paid as well as free). With streaming giants like Spotify, Google Music, Jio-Saavn, Wynk, Amazon and Gaana already posting high figures, YouTube Music India is predicted to work well in the region. In fact, Spotify crossed a million active users in just of week post launch. According to the statements issued by YouTube, • the free version of the app will have an ad-support while the music streams. • the YouTube Music Premium version of the app will cost subscribers ₹99 per month and play songs as well as videos in the background. • the YouTube Music Premium version of the app will cost subscribers ₹129 per month and offer online as well as offline audio and video playback. Also, the users will get access to YouTube originals whenever they launch. There is also a special introductory offer that can availed by Indian users which enables them to have a free subscription of YouTube Music Premium for 3 months. Also, as YouTube is a part of the massive Google umbrella, features of YouTube Music will be available for a subscriber of Google Play Music.
