  3. YHAUC RECYCLE GROUP UPDATE 22/02/2008 Advice Note No. 2007/01 - Moving Forward: • YJUG and YJAG reviewed this document. • YHAUC approval is now required to adopt the advice note for use across Yorkshire. • If agreement reached today, this procedure will be used as the model to enable material approval after successfulappendix A9 trials in the Yorkshire area, without the need for additional trials. 2 sites have completed a two year trial & passed. 1. EDS in Sheffield. 2. CBEM3 in Leeds.

  4. YHAUC RECYCLE GROUP UPDATE 22/02/2008 Group Discussion

  5. YHAUC RECYCLE GROUP UPDATE 22/02/2008 EDS material approval update: • Frequency of testing agreed with S.Y. Lab. • Lab CBR tests satisfactory. • Water soluble sulphate content - Pass. • Oxidisable sulphides content - Pass. • Soundness – Pass. • Frost susceptibility – Pass. • LA Coefficient – Pass.

  6. YHAUC RECYCLE GROUP UPDATE 22/02/2008 Inconclusive Results due to insufficient data: • Insitu plate CBR testing, not enough sites. • 90 day cube strengths insufficient results. Reasons Why: • Number of reinstatements available for testing. • Insufficient material demand. • Asbestos testing regime at S.Y. Lab. • Insufficient material demand to allow an acceptable testing frequency. Only National Grid (Gas) using plant so far.

  7. YHAUC RECYCLE GROUP UPDATE 22/02/2008 S.Y. Lab advice to Recycle Group: • Cannot give full approval at present. i.e. Only narrow trenches & <2 sq m openings in type 3 & 4 roads & footways allowed for SMR machine mix material. • With a more proactive approach a full report in 3 months.

  8. YHAUC RECYCLE GROUP UPDATE 22/02/2008

  9. YHAUC RECYCLE GROUP UPDATE 22/02/2008 Buy Recycled Event at Leeds Yorkshire Playhouse. Event Overview: • Eco Depot – Wood burning to fuel a ‘bio–mass boiler’ • CBEM. • Compost manufacture to BS 3882:2007 topsoil using green waste. • Recycled Plastic kerbs and Bollards. • Barnsley - Recycled type 1 sub-base & footway base. • Highway Authorities should communicate the results of their recycled materials trials to other Highway Authorities& Utilities. Good ideas must be embraced.

  10. YHAUC RECYCLE GROUP UPDATE 22/02/2008 • YHAUC visit to EDS recycling plant at Sheffield. • 2 visits proposed for late March, dates to be confirmed shortly.

  11. YHAUC RECYCLE GROUP UPDATE 22/02/2008 The Future: • HA’s and Utilities must be aiming for the same environmental goals. • Organisations need a policy on environmental issues with an achievable implementation plan. A Suggested Way Forward: YHAUC members to adopt an Environmental Management System – N.G. Gas use ISO 14001.
