  17. How Can We Compare Fractions? • Create equivalent fractions that have a common denominator. Then simply compare the numerators to decide which fraction is larger. • The fraction with the larger numerator will be the larger fraction • Create equivalent fractions that have a common numerator. How Can We Compare Fractions? • Find a landmark (0, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 1 to name just a few) then use that landmark to decide which fraction is larger. • If one fraction is greater then ½, and one fraction is less than ½ it makes for an easy comparison. • Turn each of the fractions into a decimal or percent (be consistent!) and then use those values to order the fractions. • When writing your final answer, make sure that you write the original fractions, not the decimal or percent!
