  2. There are several rules to remember about changing singular nouns to plural nouns. We have learned about two…. Add –s to most singular nouns. Add –es to words ending in s, sh, ch, or x.

  3. Another rule…..If the singular noun ends in y, change the y to i before adding –es. SingularPlural fly flies cherry cherries bunny bunnies baby babies

  4. I ate a strawberry for a snack. I ate strawberries for a snack.

  5. My grandpa has a pony. My grandpa has three ponies.

  6. Dad found a penny. Dad found five pennies.

  7. She gave a birthday party. She gave two birthday parties.

  8. Another rule….some nouns change their spelling to name more than one. Singular (1) Plural (more) man men woman women child children mouse mice

  9. Some more examples of nouns changing their spelling to name more than one. Singular (1) Plural (more) goose geese tooth teeth foot feet ox oxen

  10. Let’s look at some examples. The man went to work. The men went to work. The child played at recess. The children played at recess.

  11. I lost a tooth. I lost three teeth. The mouse ran across the floor. The mice ran across the floor. The woman cooked supper. The women cooked supper.

  12. Let’s make singular nouns plural The baby cried all night. The babies cried all night.

  13. The goose ate by the lake. The geese ate by the lake.

  14. The boy found a bunny. The boy found bunnies.

  15. The girl fell and hurt her foot. The girl fell and hurt her feet.

  16. I like a cherry on my ice cream. I like cherries on my ice cream.

  17. I had a penny in my pocket. I had pennies in my pocket.

  18. A person went to the game. The people went to the game.

  19. The fly was bugging us at the picnic. The flies were bugging us at the picnic.

  20. Let’s Review the ways to make a singular noun to a plural noun.…. • add –s to most singular nouns (girl/girls) • Add –es to words that end in s, sh, ch, or x (fox/foxes) • change y to i and add –es (bunny/bunnies) • Change the spelling of certain words (child/children)
