NBPTS Committed to State-of-the-Art Assessments Designed by classroom teachers and expert test developers Revisions based on in-depth analysis and approved by NBPTS Board of Directors Based on feedback from thousands of candidates, NBPTS redesigned the assessments to both avoid duplication that was evident during the first generation and focus more attention in the assessment center on subject matter knowledge.Based on feedback from thousands of candidates, NBPTS redesigned the assessments to both avoid duplication that was evident during the first generation and focus more attention in the assessment center on subject matter knowledge.

    7. 2002 Achievement Rate 39% for first time candidates Rate is similar to 1993-1994 (rate was 37.7%) 1995 rate was 24.6 % for first year of MC Gen Notably low pass rate: This year’s rate for EC Gen is 29%

    8. Results not surprising Experience and history shows that state and local school district assessment programs have lower certification rates in their first year. NBPTS expects that, like 93, 94 and 95, the achievement rate will increase in the next few years.

    9. Hypotheses for Lower Pass Rate First full year of new assessments Candidates are younger and have fewer Masters degrees Increased financial incentives could encourage teachers who qualify to become candidates but are not ready to achieve certification
