August 2 - 4, 2007.
Several years ago Judge-Executive Paul Hunt Thompson dreamed of bringing to fruition the possibility of a fair in Eastern Kentucky that would allow the children in the area to experience all the marvels of being at the State Fair in Louisville. The counties of Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin and Pike have realized the enormous economic impact of bringing such an event to Eastern Kentucky.
The judge-executives of the region requested the help of Big Sandy Area Development District with organizing this event. ThunderRidge Racing and Entertainment Complex was selected to be the location. Corporate sponsors were solicited, vendors were interested, Entertainment was found, a Carnival agreed to come and the rest is history.
The East Kentucky Fair is a regional 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that was formed in 2006
“To promote the progress of the Big Sandy Region and surrounding counties in Eastern Kentucky and stimulate public interest in the advantages and development of the Commonwealth by providing exhibitions, public gatherings, educational opportunities, cultural activities and other functions. The board resolves to advance Kentucky’s tourism industry and economy while serving the entertainment, cultural and educational interests of the public”
What’s it all about!
We Need You!
We solicit vendors from all 5 counties. Last year we had over 50 vendors, exhibitors and crafters who came out and displayed their product. The cost is reasonable and they all benefited financially because of the fair.
East Kentucky Science Center
$10.00 a day gets you in the gate, all the rides, entertainment, attractions, watching events, etc.
Last year we had over 120 projects from kids around the region who competed in 4-H. They then took their projects onto the State Fair in Louisville.
The Kids are what is all about
Originally from Southeast Kentucky, Pat Guthrie has been entertaining families since 1969. They are rated one of the safest carnivals in Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee.
Promoted by the Kentucky Harness Horseman's Association, and for the first time at the fair, this race is vital. It will bring horseman from all over the state to compete for a $10,000 purse and points to advance to the Red Mile on August 6, 2007 in Lexington.
This fair is here to stay and we have a home!
