1. TrapTester6 Training Course Session 1: Introduction
3. Session 1: Introduction & Aims Welcome to the course:
TrapTester 6 Training Course
In this course, we shall cover the basic functionality and techniques for effective fault framework model building and fault-seal prediction using TrapTester.
4. Why use TrapTester? There are many software tools currently on the market that provide functionality to build simple faulted geological models. However, the weak point in most of these applications is the inability to analyse the geological significance of the faults beyond simple geometric model building.
The advanced technical features together with the ease-of-use of TrapTester enables you to solve all of your fault-related problems, from basic seismic interpretation & 3D fault modelling through to advanced analysis for fault seal potential and flow simulation in reservoir models
TrapTester runs on Unix, Linux, PC Windows (XP and Vista)
5. Key Benefit of the Technology: Innovation
6. Key Benefit of the Technology: Service Providers
7. TrapTester: A brief history
8. Key Aims of this training course are to:
9. How the Aims will be Achieved: You will perform two different types of hands-on actions during this course:
Activity:
An Activity is where you will carry out specific tasks by following a detailed step-by-step guide.
Following the steps will enable you to become more familiar with the menus and button-press operations.
Exercise:
An Exercise is where you will perform a task without supervision.
They are designed to assess what you have learnt during the course and also to ‘encourage’ you to think independantly about how to use the software in order to solve problems.
10. Dataset used in this training course:
11. TrapTester6: Overview of software components
12. TrapTester software tools: Building a fault framework
13. TrapTester software tools: Fault Seal analysis
14. Overview of data requirements: Model Building & Fault-Seal Analysis (Time or Depth)
Horizon & fault interpretations picked on sections; Depth-converted surfaces; Map-based polygons & fault center lines from mapping packages; Model fault surfaces & polygons from 3rd party applications. Well paths, picks (horizons) & Vshale curves. Time/depth tables if TrapTester project is in time domain
Fault-Seal Calibration & Fault Reactivation (Depth only)
Pressure data comprising pressure gradient, depth-pressure pairs
Orientation, magnitude and gradient of contemporary stress field
Fault-Seal Analysis in Reservoir models (Depth only)
Corner-point data to build the cellular grid; Permeability, Net to Gross and Vshale data for cell attributes
Fracture Prediction (Depth only)
Horizon & fault interpretations; Model fault surfaces & polygons from 3rd party applications; Estimate of the back ground strain; Rock properties (density, Poisson ratio, Young’s modulus, failure envelopes etc)
15. From classroom to workroom: You will learn how to use TrapTester by using it on a project
20% of the skills needed to do a job are provided by training programs; 80% are learned by application
The longer you delay using TrapTester, the more likely you will forget how to use it
After this course, you will only retain 40% of the new skills; after 6 months you will retain only 25% and after 1 year, you will remember only 10% or less
Make a conscious decision to use TrapTester
Apply new techniques on a routine basis until the skills are fully integrated into every day work practice. Make a work plan that incorporates using TrapTester
Dealing with problems
Don't give up at the first sign of difficulty. Accept that you will have some problems using the software. It is a natural consequence of learning something new.
