  2. childhood • She was born on February fourth of 1913 • Her birth place is Tuskegee, Alabama • Her birth name was Rosa Louise McCauley • Her parents were James McCauley and Leona McCauley

  3. school • At the age of eleven she enrolled in the Montgomery Industrial School for girls, it was a private school • She then attended the Alabama State Teachers College

  4. Adulthood • She refused to give up her bus seat to a white man • This started the bus boycott that lasted for three hundred and two days • Rosa, Dr. Martin Luther king Jr., and others formed the Montgomery Improvement Association

  5. After husband’s death • After Raymond Parks’ death in 1977, Rosa founded the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development • Rosa also got the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1996 • She also got another medal in 1999; a Congressional Gold Medal

  6. Death • She spent her last years in Detroit living peacefully • In 2005 she died at the age of ninety-two
