  4. Conjunctiva • Mucous membrane that protects the eye

  5. Sclera • Outermost layer of the eye • “white of the eye”

  6. Cornea • A circular transparent part on the front of the sclera that allows light rays to enter the eye

  7. Choroid coat • Middle layer of the eye

  8. Pupil • Hole in front of the choroid coat that allows light rays to enter

  9. Iris • Special muscular part of the choroid coat that regulates the amount of light that enters. • The colored portion of the eye.

  10. Retina • Innermost layer of the eye • Made of nerve cells that transmit light impulses to the optic nerve

  11. Lens • Circular structure located behind the pupil that bends light rays

  12. Amblyopia • “lazy eye” • Poor vision in one eye caused by the dominance of the other eye

  13. Astigmatism • Abnormal shape or curvature of the cornea that causes blurred vision

  19. Tympanic Membrane • Vibrates when sound waves hit it transmitting sound waves to the middle ear

  20. Middle Ear • Contains small bones that transmit sound waves from the tympanic membrane to the inner ear

  21. Cochlea • Receptor for sound waves

  22. Meniere’s Disease • Collection of fluid in inner ear causing vertigo, N/V and ringing in ears

  23. Otitisexterna • Inflammation of the external auditory canal

  24. Otitis Media • Inflammation or infection of the middle ear

  25. Tongue • Mass of muscle tissue that contains taste receptors

  26. Olfactory Nerve • Carries impulses to the brain to determine smell
