  9. What poetry does that prose doesn’t: • Concentrates lots of meaning into small area • “Unlimited cosmic power, itty bitty living space” • Focuses on sound and rhythm as well as meaning • Gives experiential knowledge rather than practical knowledge

  14. Poetry is about thinking and feeling at the same time. You can’t “get it” relying on just one or the other. This unit will stretchyou. Be ok with that.

  15. Homework • Put your iPod on shuffle or listen to the radio for 15 minutes. • What songs come on? (List them) • What do the songs have in common? • What makes the songs different?
