  1. Coaching Model Rubric and CLOs Sam Houston High School September 16, 2013

  2. Coaching Model Rubric • Purpose – To provide a standardized rubric for classroom observations in order to provide coaching to teachers for improved instruction. • Goal – To assist teachers in improving instruction by providing feedback based on data gathered using the standardized rubric.

  3. Purpose • Quick Write: What is the purpose of a clear learning objective? • Purpose: • Begin with the end in mind. • Clear Learning Objectives guide instruction and describe, in language that the students understand, the lesson-sized chunk of information/skills they will learn today. • CLOs also provide students with an understanding of how their learning will be measured. • Teachers should share the CLOs with students by telling, showing, and most importantly – engaging students in performance of understanding throughout the lesson.

  4. Examples of Clear Learning Objectives for Today’s Session • I can write the purpose of Clear Learning Objectives (“I Cans”). • I can analyze Clear Learning Objectives by ranking example CLOs using the Coaching Model Rubric. • I can explain the purpose for providing Clear Learning Objectives and use the Coaching Model Rubric to determine expectations regarding classroom observations.

  5. Sam Houston CLO Examples • Review the example CLOs with your table group and determine what level the CLO is according to the Coaching Model Rubric. • Discuss how you would improve CLOs that are ranked in the lower levels of the rubric. • Questions to consider: • Does the CLO relate to a specific TEKS? • What type of DDOL and ASES might be observed with the CLO?

  6. Our Daily Demonstration of Learning Exit Ticket: In your composition book, answer the following question: How will the information gained from this session improve your use of Clear Learning Objectives (CLOs) in your classroom?
