**LCM**Least Common Multiple**A Multiple of a number is the product of that number and a**nonzero whole number.2 x 1 = 22 x 2 = 42 x 3 = 62, 4, 6 are multiples of 2.**There are two methods for finding LCM.**• Make a list • Use the ladder**METHOD 1**Make a list of the first few multiples of each number. The smallest number on both (all) lists is the LCM. 12 – 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 24 – 24, 48, 72, 96, 120**Method 2**THE LADDER**Method 2 continued**1st Draw an “L” and write the numbers 2nd Divide by a prime 3rd Write your answer below 12 24 2 2 6 12 3 3 6 1 2**Method 2 continued**To find the LCM of 12 and 24 – Multiply all the numbers on the outside of the “L” LCM of 12 and 24 is 3 x 1 x 23 = 24 12 24 2 2 6 12 3 3 6 1 2
