  1. STRATEGY OVERVIEW SOURCES Two very useful sources for an overview of strategies will be very useful to you as a new teacher.

ONTARIO CURRICULUM UNIT PLANNER • GO TO www.ocup.org • Select “Teaching/ Learning Strategies” • Click on the “Strategies Chart” tab at the bottom of the screen. • If you click on any strategy, it will provide a definition, description, and illustration of how to use the strategy. • BE SURE TO CLICK ON “EXIT” OR “DONE” WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED! • See pp.101-103 of your iteach Manual.

  3. Teaching In The Elementary Schoolby Eby and Herrell • pp. 155-174 • Provides an overview of strategies with some theory to support the efficacy of the strategy.

  4. Strategies include… • Schema theory • Advance organizers • Differentiated instructional strategies • Acceleration • Enrichment • Curriculum compacting • Getting students’ attention by creating an anticipatory set • Using strong presentation skills to capture and sustain interest ( e.g., enthusiasm, clarity, smooth transitions, timing, variation, interaction, active/ authentic learning, closure)
