  2. What is that???? • A conditional statement is an if and then statement. • If A, then B • A is the antecedent or cause • B is the conclusion

  3. Raining Example and Non-example • Which is a true statement? • If it is raining, then I carry my umbrella. • OR • If I carry my umbrella, then it is raining. • Decide with teacher true statement. Go to the next slide for the answer.

  4. Raining Answer • The first statement is true. If it is raining then you should carry an umbrella to shield you from the rain. • The second statement is false, just because you carry an umbrella doesn’t mean it will rain!!!

  5. Figure Example and Non-example • Okay try to get this one!!! • Which one is the true statement???? • If a figure is a rectangle, then it is a square. • OR • If a figure is a square, then it is a rectangle. • Decide with your teacher and the answer is next.

  6. Figure answer • A square is a rectangle because it has four sides. • Not all rectangles are a square, because with a square all sides are of equal length. That is not necessarily true with a rectangle. • The second statement is true!!

  7. Your assignment • You will be paired up by your teacher • You will create a book with conditional statements and illustrations(time permitting). • You will keep all statements appropriate as if we were going to teach this to an elementary student. • You will pick a theme for your book.

  8. You must have a title page with co-authors and illustrations • You need a total of 6 pages and each member is responsible for three pages a piece. • If more than two people, then each person is responsible for three pages.

  9. Materials • Construction paper or Copy paper • Colored pencils • Pencils • Stapler

  10. Theme • Each book must have a central theme. • All pages will need to be about that theme • It must be approved by the teacher • An example of a theme would be a math book, fishing book, football book, car book, etc… Any questions see your teachers!!!
